Public Safety wins.. and loses in Budget Crisis
Tuesday, Feb.23, 2010 - The DeKalb County Commission today approved a slimmed down budget.  Residents will not (yet) get a property tax increase, but will likely notice cuts in some county services.  Fortunately, public safety cuts were limited to loss of holiday pay and take-home vehicles.  CEO Burrell Ellis' predictions of police layoffs did not come to fruition.

DeKalb FOP President Jeff Wiggs has been pounding the pavement to ensure the cuts in public safety were kept to a minimum.  He encouraged law enforcement to make their presence known at today's meeting.. and they did.

District 4 Candidate Watch
Election season is fastly approaching.  Now's the time we must start researching candidates and decide who the DeKalb FOP will endorse.  This endorsement is important for any candidate, especially considering our role in the ouster of US Representative (sic) Cynthia McKinney a few years back.  Below are candidates seeking this office.

Liz Carter (R) - http://www.lizcarterforcongress.com/home.html

Cory Ruth (R) - http://www.coryruth.com/

Hank Johnson (D-incumbent) - http://www.hankforcongress.com/

Larry Gause (R) - http://www.gauseforcongress.com/

Vernon Jones (D) - http://www.vernonjonesforcongress.com/home.html

Connie Stokes (D) - http://www.conniestokesforcongress.com/

So, start doing your homework.
